Well, I can't say I'm not obsessed with Mahou Sensei Negima lately, so I won't. But what I will say is that these recently released Negima FigureMate figures are actually some of the cutest FigureMates I've seen. I still prefer the Pinky:st look to these, but they don't turn me off like FM pieces normally do. These figures are from volume 4 of the Negima set and the entire box, which includes 7 figures among the ten boxes, will run you 3,675 yen. Which isn't a bad price considering. Also out this month, the Setsuna Degenki Hobby Magazine Special Figure, which is sadly already sold out. Who knows if there will be more?!
It turns out that Japan, collectively, as a country, has come up with a concert to tour the country and play anime music. Oh, well maybe it doesn't go quite like that. More like, some companies got together to put on a concert at Tokyo's Nippon Budokan. The concert, called Animelo Summer Live 2006: Outride, will have music from such illustrious names as Chihiro Yonekura, Minami Kuribayashi, Yoko Ishida and Masami Okui among others. The concert is set to take place on July 8th.
Well, it looks as though the School Rumble Second Season (Second Series?) site is officially open now, and sporting a broadcast date for the highly anticipated new show. According to the site, the show will begin airing April 2nd at 01:36 on TV Tokyo 12. The site offers the usual goodies; a story run down, character information, merchandise information, blah blah. Honestly, I'm not a fan of the site though, it's sort of… not that pretty. Oh well, I'm sure tons of people have been looking forward to School Rumble, so enjoy!
Again, I bring the free and the sexy to you because it is what I do. The International Film Channel (IFC) is promoting their upcoming airing of Samurai 7 — based off Kurosawa's The Seven Samurai in case you're slow or have been in a fallout shelter for a while — by offering up a free online documentary that looks into anime's popularity in America. I was trying to watch it, but you know… slow work net and all that. It seemed like it might be pretty good from the opening bit I saw while writing this. At any rate, I saw one of my first anime on IFC, so I will give them their propers for having let me see Gowcaizer long before I likely should have.
It also doesn't seem to work in Firefox, so don't bitch when it doesn't. Just use IE Tab or something.
I'll have a piece up a bit later today on my thoughts about anime in America, so look for that on my personal blog if you're intersted in that sort of thing.
Well, I'm going to start this news post off by saying, WOOHOO! Let's celebrate 200 news posts! It didn't take too long, but I think 200 is a pretty decent number. And to celebrate… let's talk about this bike. I sort of wanted post 200 to be better, so thats why no news until now, but what can you do? Anyway!
GAINAX has announced that it will be releasing a limited edition bicycle to be dubbed the Shin Seiki Evangelion Shogoki Model EVA-01 BIKE. The bike will be foldable and is painted to resemble the EVA-01 mech from the series, in so much as a bike can. The limited edition mode of transports will be given a unique serial number to signify their… limitedness. They will also run you 44,100 yen. So, I hope you either really like Eva or really like biking. Or both. The bikes will ship to customers in early July.
According to the production page… thingy for the upcoming issue of Young Animal magazine, Amazume Ryuta's manga Nidaime wa Cosplayer (Second Generation Cosplayers) will begin it's serialization run in the next volume. The next volume being volume 8. The issue containing the first bit of cosplayer manga goodness will be on store shelves on April 14th. Be on the lookout and all that good stuff. I really only try to drag these things out for aesthetic purposes. Should I even bother?
Oh man, I fell asleep as the desk. Probably because I did so much heavy lifting yesterday. But the hard times are past us now. What lies ahead are the rolling fields of weekend rollup.
Sony and Square Enix are doing it hot, heavy, and prematurely by giving you an advanced screening of FFVII: Advent Children. The screening will be held at 6360 W. Sunset Blvd in Los Angeles, California, at 7:00PM on Monday, April 3rd and is open to the public. They want the money in small, non-consecutive, unmarked bills. Come alone.
There is an official page up for Madhouse's upcoming TV series Saiunkoku Monogatari. It is set to broadcast on April 8th.
Miyazaki, you know the one, has been commissioned to create a huge clock for the NTV tower in Tokyo. The clock, itself, will be sculpted by Kunio Shachimaru who did the robot for the Studio Ghibli Museum. It should be done in mid-July.
Adult Swim has picked up Eureka 7, so if you thought you might have enjoyed the show, avoid watching Adult Swim while it's on. (Cancel that… the banner's been pulled)
Honey & Clover will be getting a second season… or second series, how ever you want to look at it.
In an effort to just completely piss me off, they are planning a live action moe series, and they're going to release it in the US. I am not going to get into the numerous ways in which moe is solely the providence of 2D characters, but this idea that every single fad needs to be done to death is troublesome.
The official site for Fushigiboshi no Futago Hime Gyu!, the second series in the Futago Hime line, is now open and waiting for you to consume it. CONSUME!
Bandai Visual has pre-opened the site for the newly announced Onikoushi Enma.
And before I even manage to finish, Adult Swim has pulled the Eureka 7 banner. Wonderful.
Figures
A lovely set of Da Capo Second Season figures were announced. They'll arrive at the end of June and run you 2,400 yen or so.
A trio of Mai-Otome figures were announced. They are looking quite sexay. Yeah, sexay. They're due out in late June… or late July… for one of them.
Everyone and their cousin will be wanting these figures from Akane Maniax, fer sher. u shur? shur m shur. Not really… I just needed something to say about them. They'll be out in July and run you 5,400 yen for the set.
You'll probably want to get an early preorder down on this Belldandy from Aa! Megami-sama! It's the plain clothes version. She's due out in late July, just like everything is anymore. The 1/8 scale figure will set you back 3,990 yen.
This figure is ugly, but I thought it bore a strange resemblence to the new blonde kid from DOA4.
Lastly, for announcements anyway, are a couple of figures from a PajamaSoft eroge called A princess, which is? (Princess Witches, get it?). They are both due out in the middle of April and they both cost 9,450 yen. That's 9,450 yen per figure. Remember that… write it down.
And the last thing I noticed on the list was this Ichigo 100% set of dress up figures. They look to be your standard trading figures, and I'm pretty sure all four of them will only run you 2,856 yen. Buy, buy, buy?
Oh and one more I missed at first. Here's a set of.. Helper Ladies? If you like tiny figures of women doing odd jobs then this is for you. 4,200 yen for six figures.
Man, I hope you guys are happy. I know I'm running way late today. My apologies. Had some personal business to attend to. Ahh well, what can you do? Ok, well truthfully, there was personal stuff, but I also spent far too long trying to track down where those Princess Witches figures were from. I thought it was one of the million Mahou Shoujo animes out there, then it sort of hit me that it was probably an eroge figure. Then it took about 5 minutes. I'm a little sad about that. Now ANN has slid in there before me, like they knew about this stuff before me. I wish I had Evangeline's resort.
P.S. I figured I should mentiong that I don't dislike ANN at all. In fact, I get my news from them sometimes, since they're quite a bit larger, they get some stuff I can't, because companies hate me.
As they do every year, Akihabara news rolled up into the Tokyo International Anime Fair and did their thang. Or… are doing their thang. At any rate, that have some posts up, but there is one in particular, with some HD video of the event that I think does a good job of bringing that funk I mentioned before. I think the thing I most like are the shots of all the 1:1 figures they have sitting around. It's weird, because most of the 1:1s that make it to sale are never that good looking. In fact, I'm a little bit trouble by the fact that I am more attracted to the 1:1 bunny girl statue than I am to the 1:1 real human women standing in front of her.
Danny Choo has managed to grab some bootleg footage of a Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Solid State Society trailer that Production I.G. showed off at the currently happening Tokyo Internation Anime Fair. I say bootleg, but really it's just a recording, that I'm sure is allowed. So, you know, no one is going to go to jail for watching the clip. Regarding the clip, however, I am pleased to announce that Mr. Choo is a top notch fellow and he keeps a high video quality, so you can really get a feel for the animation quality (which is damn good) with just this video. GitS fans, be sure to check it out.
Oh man, I know it's been about 800 years since I linked AKibajin, but that's my own fault for being busy with other stuff. I'm sorry I've deprived you guys (and girls? Maybe?) of it for some long. But, since I am going to try to bring back the hot Akibajin linkage, I might as well start it out with a busty girl with a gun. So that's what I'll do. In fact, let's link Akiba Blog while we're at it. Here goes. While cruising the shops in Akihabara, Akibajin and Akiba Blog happened to snap a few pictures of a production model Meg from Bakuretsu Tenshi. Akibajin is, as usual, much more thorough, so if you are looking at buying a Meg PVC be sure to check out those pictures. Akiba Blog has less shots, but they're clearer. Just so you know.
