April 2007

Well, I am a bit short on time today. Got some things I need to get through. So as such, I am going to FLY through things… more or less. Oh yeah, and I closed Onii-chan no Ecchi. And I'll be setting up a new personal bog soon where I will do occasional articles and stuff. More info on all that later.

Anime/Manga/Games

Figures

And that's it. FUCK! IT! YEAH! I have to do some work now. I hope you folks had a good weekend. Mine was too short. Fucking time. Ah well! We will talk later. WINK WINK!

Now, up to this point, Yamashita Shunya based figures have been dead sexy every single time. Enter… the new chick. We'll be calling her Hanaya Suekko Shouko-san. That would likely end up in English as Florist's Youngest Daughter: Shouko-san. I am just not excited by this figure. The colors seems to clash a LOT, and maybe that's just me, but it's distracting. The light pink on red is just not a good pick. The eyes aren't helping either, but keeping an awkward distance from complimentary. Given, I like the boobs and the pose is fine, but hey, that's just the way it is. But hey! Who am I to talk. I can't draw or sculpt a damn thing. I can't even form a straight line. Judge for yourselves already! Jeez! Oh yeah, Kotobukiya will be putting this one out. It will be limited to their stores only for the first run (due in September-ish) but will likely see wide release later, as has been a common theme, if I do recall correctly.

Have I mentioned 40 times today that I am SOOO into Shiozaki Yuji's work? They are seriously my favorite reads. Well, a very popular pose of Kan-u is headed for PVC for by way of Wani Books. She's all white and packing her crescent blade. Just like daddy like. I think the cast looks pretty good, but I would recommend that you give heavy consideration to the e2046 Gathering resin prepaint[NSFW]. That shit is high quality. I mean it. And they added a removable top. Great job on the body too. Still, the PVC looks nice as well. e2046 lists theirs as 1/6 and the PVC is listed as 1/7 scale (240mm), so who knows which it is. PVC could have been recast smaller. The PVC will run you 6,000 yen in July, and you can grab the resin kit from e2046 on June 6th for US$128.25.

Pictures of the white PVC only after the jump. Four of them.

Hey! Moetan! She makes your loins quiver with loli thoughts. I know. I saw. And she's getting an anime. Apparently, she will be getting it this July. If you are new to Moetan (not to be confused with the wayyyy better, but less sexually charged, Maritan) she helps nerdy perverts learn English with the help of other… you know.. similar characters. Apparently, pKjd was shocked. But he lacks vision! HE LACKS A MAN'S PASSION! Stuff like that. LOOK AT THAT ONE THIGH-HIGH! MOEEEE~!

Wow. I mean, I remember the couple instances of voice actresses making idiot comments about how much they hated otaku and having them disappear from the scene pretty much instantly, but today GAINAX co-founder and creator of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Akai Takami, announced his resignation from the company. A formal apology for statements made about a certain internet anus went along with the resignation. Starting with episode 5, Akai-chan won't be appearing in the credits Gurren Lagann. And wow. You know? How does a guy go from being part of one of the most dramatic company creation stories to resigning for insulting otaku? Just amazing.

Let me just say, I totally didn't see this coming. I mean episode four was a pain to watch, really, but hey, recognize that about your own work people. Look at those "artsy" episodes of NHK. They ruin the continuity and feeling. It fucks with people. Anyway, I'd say he will be missed, but I'd be lying. I have some work shit to get done today, so other postings later if I have time. Also, I did a mini review of the black Haruhi I won from e2046. Please enjoy.

Have I mentioned lately that I am a manga and light novel whore? I am lucky the selection in the states is such shit or I would be even poorer than I am. Still, let's move along. Rental Magica is getting turned into an anime with production coming by way of ZEXCS. No other info currently. I feel like the character designs will lose something in the transition though. Site is "up" but not populated yet. As in, we know where it will be, but not when. Fourth dimensional stuff. Well, a causal fourth dimension and not so much a physical one. Since we all know a fourth dimensional space would be as a further folded three… nevermind.

Another yonkoma, Sketchbook by Kobako Totan, is getting animed. Hal Film Maker will be working on the adaptation and the title has been extended out to Sketchbook: full color's. Being as it's based on a yonkoma, it could go either way really. That's how these things go. The site will be here whenever they get around to it.

Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun, Suzuki Daisuke's award winning light novel series with the boobies is getting an anime. What kind and when and by whom are all things left to be known. Is anyone else a big whore about this stuff? I'm seriously starting to get a bit jaded on anime adaptations. Or maybe I'm bitter because a manga or eroge is so rarely enough to spur people into making figures of things I like.

Also, anyone who ordered Haruhi, HLJ got their stock (it's been internally updated to June Restock) and have allotted them out If you don't see an order for you in the next while here, you're probably fucked for the month. That is to say, my Masane (also out today from Alter) hasn't been added to an active order yet, but should be before the day is out, I figure it's the same for the thirty Haruhi figures HLJ got. Best of luck guys.

Well, this is pretty much all of the news for the day… unless you count that crazy bit of business with GAINAX forgetting where they fucking came from. I'm linking Han because his covers most everything. Sue me. Anyway, the site for Buzzer Beater Zwei (that's just me calling it that) is online. Just a heads up, it wouldn't load for me in Firefox. Opera was fine though, same with IE.

In more heartening news (mainly because it continues to prove what I've been saying all along), American anime releases are on the decline for the… you know… fifth year in a row. Ok, well that's a bit optimistic of me. It seems more likely that the hitherto idiotic business practices of anime companies are starting to level out. When you play to a niche crowd, you have to do so with concentrated quality of product. Something that lots of folks would argue is either subjective or in short supply to begin with. Of course, it still stands to prove my point that anime ISN'T popular in America in any meaningful way, despite the conventions and seemingly endless flow of idiots with an opinion on Cowboy Bebop.

While I cannot claim to have ever been a Mon-Siuer BOME fan, I can say that I've also never so much had a problem with his generally boring, but decently carved figures. Today, that changed. Entry number twenty-two into the book of BOME is one Tousaka Rin. You may know her from your tsundere wet dreams. Why do I have an issue with this figure? Well, the smooth parts are smooth and the folded bits are folded, but that's about where the quality stops. The paint looks good, let me say that before I start into this thing. Firstly, and most shockingly to me, her ears are big to a point of distraction. I don't recall Rin to be the type who could receive broadcasts from space with her head. Fix it. Second, over half of her body is made up of her disproportionate lower half. Her legs look entirely too thick, and the bottom half itself is just far too long. Her torso comes off looking stubby and it's weird. I don't like it. I suppose some people will claim it's the angle or something, but they said the same thing about that awkwardly squatty Mai from GSC all those months ago. And lastly, the skirt looks dumb. There you go. You can judge for yourself. Out in June for 4,725 yen.

Hit the jump for six or so pictures. And give BOME a smack if you see him.

Wow. I'd never imagined the angels from Neon Genesis looking quite like this. Part of the Continuation Angel (or apostle if you want to be a purist) XX figure series, Shamshel is looking quite nothing like her former, whip toting self. She cleans up nicely. I'm just saying. She is wearing about as little as possible, and that's ok. The sculpt is good, so I vote that it's a-ok, even if it's Eva. This one might garner a look from even those who aren't so into the whole Anno thing. In fact, strict NGE adherents might not fancy this figure since it's not canonical. But they are assholes. Shamshel hits in August for 2,940 yen and hits 140mm tall. Shame about that.

Four shots of this lovely angel incarnate after the jump. As an after thought, you can see some nipple edge there. Looks like we might have us a removable top on this one as well.

Well, there surely has been a rash of eroero figures lately. Isn't it nice that they all seem to come with optional clothing for those of us who would like to one day have a girl in our still-inappropriate rooms. This time it's BEAT's Dancing Girl Nile figure. She's 1/6 and get… um… chest cloth is removable. Well, there won't be any noods after the jump here… or even for the white version at all, sadly. However, there is a blonde version over at AmiAmi with the NSFW goodies. She will be out in July for 7,350 yen.

Hit the jump for three sexy shots and one of her detached extra arms. For nipple covering. Why you would do that, I have no idea.
