Wow. I mean, I remember the couple instances of voice actresses making idiot comments about how much they hated otaku and having them disappear from the scene pretty much instantly, but today GAINAX co-founder and creator of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Akai Takami, announced his resignation from the company. A formal apology for statements made about a certain internet anus went along with the resignation. Starting with episode 5, Akai-chan won't be appearing in the credits Gurren Lagann. And wow. You know? How does a guy go from being part of one of the most dramatic company creation stories to resigning for insulting otaku? Just amazing.
Let me just say, I totally didn't see this coming. I mean episode four was a pain to watch, really, but hey, recognize that about your own work people. Look at those "artsy" episodes of NHK. They ruin the continuity and feeling. It fucks with people. Anyway, I'd say he will be missed, but I'd be lying. I have some work shit to get done today, so other postings later if I have time. Also, I did a mini review of the black Haruhi I won from e2046. Please enjoy.

That's a little bit too much no ?
Fuck, he just said what everybody says in Japan..
April 27th, 2007 at 12:24 pm
Well, aside from the 4 million posters on 2ch that should apparently die.
April 27th, 2007 at 12:34 pm
Well, let me just say, I am always against firing someone for something they said. It's really not cool in the whole free-speech sort of way. Although, I really have to consider the sort of thing that runs through your mind to say publicly that you hate all the 2ch people when your studio helped create a good number of them.
Also, I sort of have to ask… if you hate us so much, WHY DID YOU CREATE YOKO?!?! IT CONFLICTS!! Shouldn't they be making more high class things without super hot female leads? Sorry, I am not going to look up some explicit Yoko pictures. Possibly on 2ch. My good god. Thigh-highs are the name of the game this season. *drools*

That sucks.

What a pathetic turn of events. I feel really sorry for the guy - we all have bad days when we say things we shouldn't, but it's ridiculous that such an insignificant event should cost him his job. For god's sake it's not as though he's a high-profile politician with responsibility as a role-model.

This is so bizarre, and it would make sense if future episodes of Gurren-Lagann suffer from this.
April 27th, 2007 at 2:19 pm
Good god, let's hope not. Episode 4 was like a horrible torture! :'(
Those three moe sisters could have been so hot! SO HOT!
Though, I think the episode 4 things was largely chalked up to the director.

…Wait a minute… I just used 'politician' and 'role-model' in the same sentence didn't I? That flu remedy must be stronger than I thought…
April 27th, 2007 at 4:55 pm
That is pretty harsh. I didn't think it was right of him (or the production manager) to insult the people who support his living. In fact, it was a bit annoying, since I equated it to them saying, "Leave your money on the desk and get the hell out." Still, I just expected this to fade into obscurity, perhaps an apology (though likely not). It's been taken a step too far…
I wonder why they switched directors to begin with.

Can't we all just get along? –'
Oh, wow. This is like the anime event of the year or something. I wish I could turn back time so that this mess wouldn't happen. Well, what's done is done pretty much.

Pride comes before the fall.
I can't say I have any sympathy for the guy, although it really does suck to be him - everything that that Gainax and he did betrayed a level of arrogance that I don't think was excusable for any company, especially towards their main consumer base.
And yes, people do have a right to free speech - but that doesn't mean there should be no consequences for the things which they say. In essence, that itself would cheapen what free speech means. You can express yourself however you want… but in exchange, that means you also have to take responsibility for saying them.

Newfags GTFO. "awww, he shouldn't have gotten fired ;_; wayt, what did he do? lol, bankai~"
Seriously, this guy got what was coming to him. You just don't publicly fuck around with people who are the primary support system of your company. If Gainax hadn't have dropped him (doubtful on multiple levels) there would be a significant drop in profits. This wouldn't be just because of the viewer drop (after ep.5 obviously as they'd be looking for an apology in that one) but mainly because of the merchandise that they wouldn't be able to sell, seeing as how the majority of people who buy such things are otaku themselves.
