I'd meant to post this last week, since I always love to help out people actually willing to send me press releases. Har! Anyway, it looks like the Xbox LIVE Marketplace is jumping on the anime bandwagon… it's a small wagon, admittedly. So if you have a 360 you will be able to grab… you know, anime. And watch it. BUT THAT'S NOT ALL! For a limited time, all your favorite FUNimation shows will be up for download in glorious standard definition, and they won't have Japanese language tracks.
Well… they might do HD. For some stuff. Still, I am willing to put dollars to pesos that it's English only. It hurts my heart to see them continuing to exclude the sub lovers from the market. I mean, WMV can probably do multiple vocal streams. If they do indeed offer subbed version, someone let me know. I don't use my 360 much as it is. That might change when I get my hands on Trusty Bell.
Hit the jump for the full release. It's very excited, so try not to let on if you're not interested.
Xbox 360T is the first and only gaming console to provide HD and standard-definition TV shows and movies straight to your console's hard drive! Every week, Xbox LIVE? releases exciting new TV and film titles like Dreamgirls, Charlotte's Web, Babel, Friends, all of your favorite anime shows, and the Chappelle Show!

It just so happens that this week, your favorite Funimation anime shows premier on Xbox as some of the many shows you can now download.
It's simple! Purchase Microsoft Points on Xbox LIVE or at retail locations and redeem them in the Xbox LIVE Marketplace for your favorite movies and television shows!

A lot of them are in Japanese with English subs, from what I've heard, and there are some good things on that list(KGNE, Last Exile, Gankutsuou, and the movies of Akira and The Place Promised in our Early Days available).
Pity it isn't available outside the US, though.

Well good! I haven't touched my 360 since the Marketplace went live, so I haven't looked around… or heard much about it.
You could always sign up for a US account :D BWAHAHAHA! I mean, sure it'd get banned, but you only need silver for the videos. I do it for Japanese demos. Most of which are redundant anyway. Jerks. JUST LET ME PLAY!
You hear that Sony, too? LET ME PLAY JAPANESE DEMOS!

IIRC MS has started to use IP filtering and other tricks to prevent access to US content from outside the US.
Which is a bitch. I don't do pay video-download (I like my shiny disks), but The Placed Promised is supposed to be in HD…

BASTARDS! :'(
I guess I will just have to forsake the consoles and go back to my PC. Which IS A HAVEN OF BEAUTIFUL ACCESS! UNFETERESD!!! WOO!

Oh, I should probably clarify that I meant US video content - you can still download demos from aboard and the like, thank goodness (I have a JP region 360 ^^;).

I await PS3 to do the same, without any region restrictions. Anyway, region restriction is one of the stupidest inventions ever.

I am waiting to get a PS3 hopes it will have anime content soon. I hate region coding it sucks… PC is still the best in getting anime content. Hey Randall been wanting to ask how you get those related post at the bottom of the Post? Is it a plugin for WP?

While it may still have some kinks to work out, that sounds like a really interesting idea. More and more these companies are trying to get the console to be the hub of the multimedia experience. When can we start seeing some anime/game packages, a la /hack =D?

I am hoping for a good PS3 store as well. I mean, I really only ever touch my PS3. Everything else is all dusty. But I doubt we'd see region free anime and such. The movie companies are so convinced that they will somehow lose money by giving content to more people. Same with the copyright holders. Crazy bastards.
Kabitzin:
I wouldn't be surprised to see something like that in the future, but right now I think it's too new for companies to even have the idea. They always seem to be 2 or 3 years behind the curve. Or maybe we're all just 2 or 3 years ahead of it. >.>
